Former president of the Republic of Zambia, Kenneth David Kaunda, has passed away.
The former president had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, his office had earlier said.
He is among the continents few surviving liberation heroes.

Kaunda was one of the first leaders of a newAfricaas countries rejected colonialism in favour of self-government.
Despite his early rejection of multiparty democracy, he was acclaimed as a modernising influence on the continent.
