According toSowetanLive, the 38-year-old did not know Dr Tumis real name, which is Tumisang Victor Makweya.
He said that prior to this case he had never met the singer nor had any interaction with him.
The couple handed themselves over to the authorities on Tuesday.

The couple has been released on bail of R3 000 each.
The applications were approved and this resulted in R1.5 million being transferred into a private bank account.
Dr Tumi has been charged with fraud, along with his wife Kgaogelo Makweya.
